Guangzhou, 23-27 October 2026 - Phase 2 of the 140th Canton Fair closed after five days of buying and negotiation at the Canton Fair Complex. At Booth 15.3G07-09 in Area C, Sytai (Wuhan Xinyatai Group) met distributors, supermarket chains, restaurant groups and food factories with a single message: in a market crowded with compliance risk, packaging should be a certainty, not a gamble.

From buying products to buying assurance

A compostable bowl now carries a chain of decisions behind it - which board, which coating, which certification, which lead time. If one link fails, the order fails.

This is why overseas buyers are moving from "buy a product" to "buy assurance", and why Sytai has spent twenty years building the whole chain instead of a single product line: material selection, international certification, custom printing and flexible production under one roof.
The shift is visible in the questions asked at the booth. Two years ago the first question was the price per thousand pieces; this year it is which certificate covers my market, whether the coating is PFAS-free, and how fast a repeat SKU can be re-run. Buyers who came to compare unit prices left asking who can still deliver in week twelve.

The full product matrix, not a sample box

The booth carried the complete range: biodegradable paper cups and bowls, kraft paper bags, soup cups, salad bowls, burger boxes, popcorn buckets, airline tableware, cup carriers, PLA cutlery, PET cups, lids and straws.
Materials ran from water-based coated paper to PLA, PHA and PBS, chosen by market rather than by trend - food-contact rules in the EU, PFAS pressure in the United States and cost per serve in emerging markets each point to a different specification.

That range matters commercially. A supermarket chain buying cups, lids, sleeves and carriers from four suppliers carries four sets of certificates, four lead times and four sets of artwork proofs. Consolidating them into one supplier removes three of each, and one container can leave with a mixed load instead of waiting for four separate minimum order quantities.

The certificate wall is the product

Behind the shelves stood the part buyers actually audit. The certification wall covered FSC, FDA, ISO 14001, BRC, BSCI, and in October 2026 DIN CERTCO certified Sytai's coated paper cups under the DINplus recyclability scheme - a document that answers the question European retailers now ask before they ask for a price.

Where the growth is coming from

This session, Belt and Road markets supplied the largest increment. With North America facing tariff uncertainty, buyers from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa filled the gap, and the Canton Fair again worked as the connector that matches regional demand to the right supplier.

Sytai's twenty years sit directly on that line: a plant of more than 80,000 square metres, annual output above five billion pieces, products shipped to more than 100 countries and 1,000-plus brand customers served. Emerging-market orders arrive urgent, mixed and fragmented - small batches across many SKUs - which is exactly what flexible scheduling is built to absorb.
Regional demand is also diverging in specification, not only in volume. A ripple-wall cup for a European coffee chain, a heavy-gauge soup bowl for Gulf catering and a cost-optimised plate for a West African distributor can leave the same plant, but they share neither board grade nor coating - and each one needs its own compliance file.

Service is part of the product

Customisation is where most orders are won or lost, and it was the second half of every conversation at the booth. Buyers arrived with a brand guideline, a reference cup and a target price; they left with a material recommendation against their market's food-contact rules, a dieline for their format, and a print proof schedule that fits their launch date.

Sizes, wall construction, coating and artwork move together - a change in one usually forces a change in the others, which is why quoting them separately produces surprises at the sampling stage.

Delivery is the other half. Mixed-SKU containers, pallet patterns that survive transhipment, and a repeatable specification so that the second order matches the first are what turn a fair contact into a twelve-month programme. For buyers diversifying away from single-market supply, that repeatability is worth more than a marginal price difference.

Certainty, in an uncertain market

If you are sourcing food packaging for 2027, send your specification, target market and volume; we will return a material recommendation, the certification documents that apply to your market, and a production schedule you can plan against. Samples and factory visits can be arranged on request.
