Paper Packaging

High-performance PE coated cup raw material designed for high-speed cup forming, die-cutting, and printing. Manufactured from 100% virgin wood pulp with precision-controlled food-grade PE coating (10–30gsm), our rolls deliver unmatched waterproofing, oil resistance, and heat-sealability — the essential foundation for reliable paper cups, bowls, and food containers.

PE Coated Cup Raw Material

What is PE coated cup raw material, and why is it essential for disposable food packaging?

PE coated cup raw material is a composite substrate where a layer of polyethylene (PE) is laminated onto high-quality paper using extrusion coating technology. This creates a complete barrier against water, oil, and moisture, while enabling heat-sealing for cup side seams and bottom curl. It is essential because it prevents beverage leakage, maintains cup rigidity, and ensures hygiene standards for food contact. Sytai's PE coated paper rolls are manufactured from virgin wood pulp and food-grade PE resin to deliver consistent performance for disposable foodservice packaging.

What is the difference between single-side coated and double-side coated PE paper? How do I choose?

  • Single-side coated paper has PE applied only on one side — typically the interior side that contacts food/liquid. The uncoated exterior accepts high-quality offset printing. It's ideal for standard hot/cold paper cups.

  • Double-side coated paper features PE on both sides, offering superior moisture resistance and preventing edge curl in humid environments. It is recommended for soup bowls, frozen food containers, and double-wall cups where extreme humidity or high-temperature stability is required. Sytai provides both options, and our technical team can recommend based on your cup size, printing method, and filling conditions.

Is Sytai's PE coated cup raw material food-safe? What certifications do you hold?

Yes, all Sytai PE coated paper products are manufactured in compliance with international food contact regulations. We use FDA-compliant PE resin and virgin wood pulp with no industrial recycled content. Our products meet GB 4806.7 (China National Food Safety Standard), EU Framework Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, and are regularly tested for migration limits, sensory properties, and overall safety. Certificates and test reports are available upon request.

Is this material compatible with offset printing and flexographic printing?

Absolutely. Our PE coated cup raw material is specifically engineered for both printing technologies:

  • Offset printing: Performed on the uncoated paper side. We offer high-smoothness base paper with controlled ink absorption, ensuring sharp halftones and vivid branding.

  • Flexographic printing: Available on the coated side after corona treatment to increase surface energy, resulting in excellent ink adhesion for water-based or UV flexo inks.

  • We recommend pre-production trials to fine-tune printing parameters for optimal results.

What grammage (gsm) of paper and PE coating should I choose for my product?

The selection depends on your final application:

  • Small cups (4oz – 12oz): Base paper 170–220gsm + PE coating 12–18gsm (single side).

  • Medium to large cups (16oz – 30oz): Base paper 240–300gsm + PE coating 15–22gsm (single or double side for extra stiffness).

  • Bowls, food trays, heavy-duty containers: Base paper 280–350gsm + PE coating 20–30gsm (double side).

  • Sytai offers a comprehensive range from 150gsm to 350gsm paper weight and 10gsm to 30gsm PE coating weight. We can also customize the combination based on your forming machine and end-use requirements.

Is PE coated paper environmentally friendly? Can it be recycled?

Sustainability is a priority at Sytai.

  • Raw materials: Our base paper is made from 100% virgin wood pulp sourced from sustainably managed forests (FSC® certification available upon request).

  • Recyclability: Traditional PE-coated paper is not accepted in standard paper recycling streams due to the polyethylene layer. However, specialized facilities with paper-plastic separation technology can recycle these materials.

  • Eco-innovations: Sytai now offers PLA-coated paper (compostable) and is developing water-based barrier coatings for improved recyclability. Contact us to explore sustainable alternatives that align with your brand's environmental goals.

What are your minimum order quantities (MOQ) for custom PE coated paper rolls?

  1. For standard specifications (common widths, standard paper/PE weights), we maintain stock and MOQ can be as low as 1 ton. For fully customized orders (special width, unique grammage combination, custom PE color or surface treatment), the MOQ typically ranges from 3 to 5 metric tons per specification.

  2. Lead time for custom orders is approximately 15–25 working days after order confirmation. We encourage new clients to start with sample rolls for testing before full production orders.

Do you provide free samples? How can I request sample rolls for testing?

Yes, we support pre-qualification testing. We provide free A4-size sample sheets for initial printing evaluation and hand-feel testing. For jumbo roll samples to run on cup-forming machines, we offer sample rolls at material cost plus shipping. Our technical team can guide you through sample evaluation and machine parameter optimization. To request samples, please contact our sales team with your target cup size, printing method, and desired grammage.
